When Peter leaves the safety of his yard, he and his animal friends come face to face with a wolf. The encounter becomes a test of courage, as well as an important lesson in empathy, responsibility and freedom.

Suzie Templeton’s Oscar-winning animation is a remarkable interpretation of Sergei Prokofiev’s celebrated symphonic fairy tale. With no dialogue or narrator, the film tells its story entirely through images, sound and music performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Mark Stephenson. Its dark, emotionally charged sets and meticulously animated puppets give the classic tale a contemporary and ambiguous character.

Peter and the Wolf was created using stop-motion animation at the Se-ma-for studio in Łódź. The film was directed by Suzie Templeton, with production design by Marek Skrobecki and Jane Morton and Adam Wyrwas serving as lead animator. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
